Skid Steer Brush Cutter Comparison – Which One Is Right for You?

One of the most common questions we get at Rigs & Rides in Mansfield, Ohio, is what the real differences are between the affordable imported skid steer brush cutters on the market. With so many options available, it can be difficult to know which brush cutter is actually right for your equipment and the type of work you plan to do.

We've put together this much-requested brush cutter comparison featuring AGT, Wolverine Standard, Wolverine HD, and Raytree 4-Blade brush cutters to help take the guesswork out of choosing. We're looking beyond advertised cutting capacities to compare realistic brush-cutting abilities, hydraulic flow requirements, construction differences, and key features. So keep in mind that the manufacturer cutting capacities are going to state cutting capacities that do not match our recommended max cut.

Whether you're clearing trails, maintaining hunting property, mowing overgrown fields, or managing brush on your acreage, our goal is to help you understand what you're buying and choose the best skid steer brush cutter for your needs and budget.

Recommended cutting ranges are conservative guidance rather than independently tested maximum capacities. The two Wolverine cutters are both recommended for 1–2 inch material because the HD shares the standard model’s motor. A stump jumper is a protective feature rather than proof of greater cutting capacity. Verify hydraulic and machine compatibility. In regards to warranty's, out of the five compared brush cutters, only Raytree offers a warranty.

Common Upgrades to AGT & Wolverine Brush Cutters

One thing worth mentioning when comparing affordable imported skid steer brush cutters is that some owners choose to make upgrades to their AGT and Wolverine cutters over time. Common modifications include upgrading the blade carrier to a stump jumper, replacing blades and blade bolts with higher-quality components, upgrading hydraulic hoses and couplers, and reinforcing areas of the cutting deck. We will create a blog at a later time going into depth on common upgrades.

Four-blade system; published 60 HP gearbox and manganese-steel blade carrier; higher flow requirement.

*The 2026 D-RC72 values shown are provisional reference figures copied from the standard Wolverine BC-13-72W; they do not establish the HD model’s actual factory specifications.

Recommended application

Pasture maintenance, overgrowth, brush and smaller saplings generally 1–2 inches. The stump jumper is listed as a protective feature, not evidence of increased cutting capacity.

Construction / verification note

The owner confirms the D-RC72 uses the same motor as the standard Wolverine. The standard Wolverine specifications are carried over as comparison references, not individually verified D-RC72 factory figures. A stump jumper can help protect the drivetrain from impacts; it does not, by itself, increase the cutter’s supported cutting diameter. The standard Wolverine is also listed with a stump jumper.

Stump jumper: protection feature to help the blade assembly ride over impacts. Not a higher cutting-capacity rating.
